Ash Wednesday

I was overwhelmed bythe church's response to the Ash Wednesday service. We were expecting anywhere from 30 to 50 people to come, and 113 people came for the service. People of all ages were there, from toddlers to retirees. It is always great to see the Body of Christ come together, but somehow gathering to make the intentional journey through Lent to Easter is even more special. Every person there made an extra effort to come together to seek God's help and support one another. It says so much about the commitment of people here at Horizons! The Praise Band sounded great and really facilitated worship. It was a good offering to God to start this six-week journey toward Easter.

I loved Stuck in the Middle!!! I really felt good after the speaker, Heather, told us that middle schoolers are some of the smartest she knows. When we were in our small groups on friday night, Chris told us that when he is in a situation, he asks himself, what would Grant do or what would Jacob do? That was amazing that he said that to us.

Tonight, I had an amazing conversation with our 8th grade confirmation class. We had a great conversation about if it is possible to love people, without having a love for God. The discussion came to a peak when Grant Schirmer said, "It is possible to love people without loving God, because God loves us." It was extremely moving to hear such a wise statement. Many other theological conversations went on throughout the evening. All of the kids had amazing input and very wise things to say. I finished our conversation by talking to them about 1 Tim 4:12. "Do not let anyone look down on you because you are young, but rather set an example for the believers in speech, life, love, faith, and purity." My prayer for them is that they can hold on to the things that have heard this weekend for a long, long time.

Night 1 at Stuck in the Middle!

Stuck in the middle is GREAT so far!! We played "Minute to Win it" games and several people from our church played. We had a long car ride, 3 hours! We went through Nebraska, Iowa, Kansas, and Missouri.

Stuck in middle is fun so far! Me and Grant both got our chance in the limelight. We just got to the hotel and are now just getting settled in. We had a "minute to win it." Only I got to the championship, but Grant didn't get there because he "cheated." says him and his point of view was that "what I was doing was pure strategy!" Tomorrow we are going to see Never Say Never: Justin Bieber story.

Stuck in the Middle has been awesome so far!! We have a bunch of 5th-8th graders and leaders down in KC for the weekend. There is a middle school conference here, and then we are livin it up at the Great Wolf Lodge at night. We are pumped to have a balcony in our hotel room right now. Nice cool night out.

The worship tonight was amazing. One of my favorite things in the world is sitting back watching all of our kids worship God. I wish you all could see them letting their guards down in a room full of just middle schoolers.

Thank you Horizons for loving kids and youth, and supporting this ministry. I love being in a church that gives so much to our kids.

They're Off!

I haven't been a BLOGGER, so I guess it's about time I learn. We just sent off 51 Middle Schoolers and 19 adult sponsors to the big "Stuck in the Middle" event in Kansas City. Please join me in praying for all these young people and adults. I was excited to hear Derek talk about the way that the young people experienced God's presence last year, and I know that this event is another opportunity for God to work in powerful ways in the lives of these young people. We are so blessed at Horizons to have so many young people and committed adults to help them know Jesus. Thanks to everyone who made it possible for our young people to go!
