God Gives Good Gifts…like VBS!

Night 5…hard to believe another year of VBS has come and gone. Tonight we talked about how God gives us good gifts. There were gifts all week...such as over 1,500 God sightings. AMAZING!What are some of the awesome gifts from God you received this week? Personally, this week came up at a very crazy time in my life. Seeing God at work in all the kiddos, volunteers and families was just what I needed to know that God is good. AMEN! Bet each and every one of you has special moments from VBS ’11. Make sure to come Sunday for the sheering of Bob and Karl’s superhero heads. Plus, the Worship team will pump up the congregation with some of the heaviest rock VBS songs I’ve heard in my 10 years at Horizons. (Imagine cool electric guitar riff here) Great job to all for making this the best week!

I Love Kids!

Panda Pete here! This week is exactly what I needed--both emotionally and spiritually. Every morning, I get up at 6 o'clock to lift for 2 hours for football, then head to football camp for 3 hours, and, basically, go straight to VBS for practice for skits for the night and dance around like some crazed panda. Needless to say, my day can get pretty tiring. But every night I show up, just trying to get through the night, I end up having the time of my life! Whether it's me dancing like a dork, or all the kids I don't know coming up and giving me high-fives and hugs, I don't know, but after I leave, I feel "rejuvanized!" (Apparently, that's not a word but I say it is.) Every night, I am so glad I came and I thank God for giving me the chance to be in such a great church with awesome people and amazing kids. I really do love all these kids--they bring so much joy to my life! They bring me so many laughs and they give me so much to be thankful for! I know, after all the things have been cleared out, that God has placed me here not only to have fun with these kids and mess around with them, but also so that they could make such a positive impact in my life. I can't ever thank God enough for the amazing joy, and laughs, and awesomeness, and uplifting coolness that these kids bring in my life!

Awesome Night 3 of PandaMania

God is definitely in the house! The energy and excitement in God's house is electric. Both children and volunteers were charged and ready to praise God during night #3 of VBS. This week is one of my favorite weeks. Being able to connect with kids, have fun and praise God. What a great combination. God sightings from my group have been great. This is my first week to be a Crew Leader. I love being involved and getting to experience everything right a long with the kids. I am a kid at heart! A huge thank you to all who volunteer and make this week happen and run smooth.

Night 2 of PandaMania

What a great night #2 for vbs! We had 322 kids attending and many, many wonderful volunteers getting the kids all pumped up for God! Thanks to every single volunteer for making it so great. I know first hand from my daughter that she loves Chadder the most, not to mention the singing and dancing to the fantastic music provided by our worship team! We were rockin down the house! What a great sight to sees hundreds of kids and adults worshiping together, making a joyous noise! God's love to all!

Awesome Start to the Week of VBS!

Night one of VBS is done and the only word I can think of is ‘Excited”. There are only a handful of things in a young child’s existence that really make their eyes sparkle...birthdays, Santa Claus and seeing mom and dad after a long day without them. Tonight, I saw some of those eyes through the eyes of a 6’ tall panda. When Derek asked me to suit up, I thought “sure, sounds like fun.” Little did I know I’d be seeing those same sparkles all night. Although I’m about 5 lbs lighter due to the heat in that thing, the high fives and hugs made it all well worth it!

While that was one highlight of the night, I also had a chance to walk around and help out with security. I got a chance to see some different activities like the arts/crafts, kids talking to our Super Heroes, Bob and Karl, the worship band and kids singing and dancing along and also how much fun the kids had with the games. You can never truly appreciate kids having a blast until you see a group doing a monkey dance, led by Jay! God is really working through all the volunteers and in every situation the kids are in at VBS. Liz and I look forward to hear all the “God Sightings” throughout the week from our girls and know that each child attending will be truly blessed by Him. As we walked out to head home, we looked up to find a rainbow in the sky. Yet another sign from God that he loves us no matter what.

5 Reasons Why I am Looking Forward to VBS!

#1 VBS Midday! It is something new we are doing this year where we open the worship center from noon-1:00pm Monday-Thursday for our church to come and pray for VBS. We will have candles, music, and the names of every VBS participant running across the screen! We are going to be able to SOAK our kids in prayer!

#2 Worship. There is nothing like it!!!! Hundreds of kids, volunteers willing to let down their guards, and our Horizons worship team coming together to praise God! AMAZING!

#3 New People. Horizons gets to truly live our mission the week of VBS! We will have kids from the Barnabas Project, kids from the People's City Mission, and kids from our community that have never been to church. This is exactly why we are a church!

#4 Our Kids. We get to pour into the next generation of the church! What a great mission field!!!

#5 Our Team! We have the best team of volunteers on the planet! I CAN'T SLEEP after meetings with our team of directors because I am so PUMPED! The volunteers in every area of this VBS are a blast to work with, and I can't imagine not spending the week with everyone!

Invite your friends, we have spots open for them! Register to participate or volunteer at horizonschurch.org.
