Welcome to Horizons!

If this weekend was your first time here at Horizons, welcome! Friday night was a BLAST at the Trunk or Treat! Thanks for making it such a fun event, and for keeping it growing! The trunk themes and the costumes were awesome!

We also had a blast on Sunday morning with the kids during the Colorful Magic Show! We saw a live bunny, watched a trick where the room filled with a big snow fall, and learned how God is the only true magician! It was a fun and impactful morning.

For those of you that this was your first weekend here, our services are at 9:30 and 11:00 each Sunday. Our kids 4th grade and under meet during each service, and are getting ready to go into a month of “Vertical Edge,” where we learn about working for God! Our 5th-8th graders also meet during each service in the big youth room here called the BOB! Don’t hesitate to give us a call or shoot us an email if you have any questions before next Sunday!

Thank you, Hands of Horizons!

Just a quick note to say thank you. Yesterday I finally got time to walk around the property and see all that you had done. I actually hadn't seen the south side or shed. Love both by the way. As I was making my little trek through the yards and house I had to smile. It occurred to me that every new or fixed thing were things I had whispered to God over the last eleven years that I really wanted to change but didn’t have the money or know how to do. ( except for not having any steps on the back porch, that is a new whisper and will be fixed soon. .hehehehe) It is like God took my whisperings and put them in your ears. Can’t help but be in awe of a God who takes something so personal and secret and then makes it happen through other people. Yes He never gets old to me.

Even the supplies and food that were left over are things that either the kids love or that we needed. For instance we were out of small plates, cups and spoons. In the African American Culture you show someone how much you love them by how much food you make for them. Kids feeling very loved plus with no school today they are got a very special lunch. As good as you ladies are at planning even you couldn’t have planned all of that.I am very blessed but even more I can see God in everything that was done and that makes me love Him even more.

Fusion Campout

We had an AWESOME time last Friday night at the Fusion campout! The night included watching a movie projected on the side of the church, a fire pit, playing some games of football and mancala, and staying up a little late laughing in tents! Plus we had a great time of worship and heard a message from Chris Berger about how amazing Jesus is. Thank you to all of the adult volunteers who chaperoned and prepared for the special night, we couldn’t have done it without you. We can’t wait to keep hanging out with all of our Horizons 5th-8th graders and the many friends they brought along with them.

God Gives Good Gifts…like VBS!

Night 5…hard to believe another year of VBS has come and gone. Tonight we talked about how God gives us good gifts. There were gifts all week...such as over 1,500 God sightings. AMAZING!What are some of the awesome gifts from God you received this week? Personally, this week came up at a very crazy time in my life. Seeing God at work in all the kiddos, volunteers and families was just what I needed to know that God is good. AMEN! Bet each and every one of you has special moments from VBS ’11. Make sure to come Sunday for the sheering of Bob and Karl’s superhero heads. Plus, the Worship team will pump up the congregation with some of the heaviest rock VBS songs I’ve heard in my 10 years at Horizons. (Imagine cool electric guitar riff here) Great job to all for making this the best week!

I Love Kids!

Panda Pete here! This week is exactly what I needed--both emotionally and spiritually. Every morning, I get up at 6 o'clock to lift for 2 hours for football, then head to football camp for 3 hours, and, basically, go straight to VBS for practice for skits for the night and dance around like some crazed panda. Needless to say, my day can get pretty tiring. But every night I show up, just trying to get through the night, I end up having the time of my life! Whether it's me dancing like a dork, or all the kids I don't know coming up and giving me high-fives and hugs, I don't know, but after I leave, I feel "rejuvanized!" (Apparently, that's not a word but I say it is.) Every night, I am so glad I came and I thank God for giving me the chance to be in such a great church with awesome people and amazing kids. I really do love all these kids--they bring so much joy to my life! They bring me so many laughs and they give me so much to be thankful for! I know, after all the things have been cleared out, that God has placed me here not only to have fun with these kids and mess around with them, but also so that they could make such a positive impact in my life. I can't ever thank God enough for the amazing joy, and laughs, and awesomeness, and uplifting coolness that these kids bring in my life!

Awesome Night 3 of PandaMania

God is definitely in the house! The energy and excitement in God's house is electric. Both children and volunteers were charged and ready to praise God during night #3 of VBS. This week is one of my favorite weeks. Being able to connect with kids, have fun and praise God. What a great combination. God sightings from my group have been great. This is my first week to be a Crew Leader. I love being involved and getting to experience everything right a long with the kids. I am a kid at heart! A huge thank you to all who volunteer and make this week happen and run smooth.

Night 2 of PandaMania

What a great night #2 for vbs! We had 322 kids attending and many, many wonderful volunteers getting the kids all pumped up for God! Thanks to every single volunteer for making it so great. I know first hand from my daughter that she loves Chadder the most, not to mention the singing and dancing to the fantastic music provided by our worship team! We were rockin down the house! What a great sight to sees hundreds of kids and adults worshiping together, making a joyous noise! God's love to all!
